The MAG Web site was developed, authored & published by Buckdale Computer
Systems Pty Ltd for Mature Age Gays (MAG) in conjunction with many MAG members,
MAGazine readers, speakers at MAG meetings and other MAG friends, who provided
the source material.
MAG gratefully acknowledges the significant assistance of the Ageing and
Disability Department of NSW, who provided a $4000 grant to seed this project
and make the WEB site possible.
This grant was awarded as part of the NSW Government's contribution to the
International Year of the Older Person (IYOP) 1999. We hope the WEB site
will remain as a permanent proof of the effectiveness and practicality of the
IYOP awards. The WEB site is available not only to those in the community with
direct internet connections, but also, through public library access, to
the entire community—including MAG members, other associations for older
people, and other national and international GLBT organisations and individuals
The MAG WEB site has been optimised for Internet Explorer 5.0 (IE 5) or later, because of its excellent support for features that assist browsing by ageing and disabled persons. An example is larger font text & bold in tooltips—popup messages. Some other WEB browsers do not support some of IE 5’s implementations such as Dynamic HTML behaviours. For these other browsers, some of the features of the MAG WEB site will not display best. Out-of-date or specialist browsers that do not support frames will not display the site at all.
The site looks best at a resolution of 800 x 600 (in pixels) or larger with the browser set to full screen (in IE 5 choose the Full Screen option of the View menu). It looks ok at 640 x 480 though things can get a bit cramped! To view many of the photographs on the site, you will need to set your graphics card to use at least High Colour (i.e. 16 bit colour)--256 colours (8 bit colour) are too few to display quality photographs properly. For the visually impaired, the size of the main text can be increased using most browsers (in IE 5, set the Text Size option on the View menu).
A good tip which is true for all sites: if you get rubbish on the screen, try adjusting the width of the screen or changing from Full Screen to adjustable mode and back. If this doesn't clear it, try refreshing the screen (in IE 5 press the function key F5 or pick the Refresh option from the View Menu).
The navigation of this site has deliberately been kept simple to facilitate use by inexperienced and novice internet users. Simply click a choice on the left-hand frame’s menu. For choices in the right frame, click when the cursor changes to a hand. Use the browser's BACK button freely. From a page not displaying the menu, for example, you can get back to the menu by a single click of your browser’s BACK button.
