BE PROUD Hi Guys,
We are besieged by tsunamis, earthquakes,
floods, hurricanes and impending pandemics.
But as there is good, even in all bad things, what have you noticed
happens in these times of utmost catastrophe?
People band together as a
specie, not according to race; colour; country of origin; sexual,
political or religious
persuasion. Just as people reaching
out to each other. The beauty of that,
when evidenced, makes me cry, as I am touched somewhere deeper than by any
other experience. It’s a love for each
other that is seldom evidenced. It’s a
discarding of all barriers and learned hatred.
Must we wait till a disaster so horrific that it threatens our
entire world as we know it to reach out to each other? We of the GLBTI community have yet to do
so, even within our own. The AIDS
trauma bonded us together for a while.
But now we are perhaps just as blasé.
Ageism, racism and every other ism still marginalises many of us.
As we enter the 17th Anniversary
of MAG, let us celebrate our love for each other and also rejoice in all the
years we have had that no-one can take away from us. How lucky we are to have enjoyed over 6 and
a half decades as per our last survey which showed our average age in MAG to
be 65.9.
And how blessed we are to have MAG there
for us, whether it is a dinner, presentation, or just a hug to embrace that which we all need,
acceptance, love and belonging.
My thanks to all of you who have
supported MAG these 17 years and have seen it grow to one of the largest gay
organisations in Australia and the largest in the world catering
to the Mature Age Man. We can truly be proud of this.
With Love as
always.
Steve
